KPMG: Last year, up to 43% of executives wanted to change jobs, but less than half were successful in switching

KPMG's "Hong Kong Executive Salary Outlook 2024" survey revealed that last year, up to 43% of senior executives sought new opportunities, but only less than half (15%) succeeded, reflecting the difficulty for companies to match talent with the right positions. This year, 39% of people are considering changing jobs, an increase compared to last year.

KPMG's "Hong Kong Executive Salary Outlook 2024" surveyed 1,103 corporate executives and professionals to assess employment trends and opportunities, covering the latest expected employee numbers, compensation outlook, talent trends, and other related issues.

Facing the development opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, over 73% of the surveyed executives showed interest in relocating, not only for higher salaries but also for broader career prospects. Companies are also actively recruiting talent from the Greater Bay Area to fill the manpower gap in Hong Kong.

The survey showed that those who stayed in their original jobs generally received a 3% to 5% salary increase, while 16% received more than 10%. Although the increase is stable, it is significantly less compared to the average 17% salary increase brought by changing jobs. In terms of salary growth expectations, 78% of the respondents expect to get a raise in 2024, an increase from 74% last year.

A career change is not just about financial improvement but also about seeking a more suitable and potentially more developmental work environment. The mobility of Hong Kong's corporate executives reflects new trends in the workplace and also indicates the future direction of the industry.
