Under the pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic, most companies are facing tremendous challenges to their survival, and Airbnb is no exception. However, it not only successfully resisted this crisis but also found a new direction for business development in adversity.

Brian Chesky, the CEO of Airbnb, deeply reflected on the company's past "fiefdom" culture. He found that this organisational approach, which centred on small teams or departments, became a stumbling block as the company scaled up.

Chesky said, "I’m not there to micromanage as much as I’m there as an orchestra conductor to make sure it plays one cohesive sound." A CEO is not here to act as the ruler of the organisation but to coordinate and guide everyone in the right direction.

Inspired by Steve Jobs' transformation of Apple, Chesky believes that true leadership lies not only in empowering subordinates but also in having the courage and wisdom to make necessary strategic changes.
