The economic landscape of 2023 has already changed, no longer dominated by manufacturing and consumer goods companies. Tech and business service companies now lead the new global economic order. However, many tech companies have gone through tough times. Despite that, they continue to excel in investments, employee satisfaction, and environmental conservation.
TIME Magazine, in partnership with statistics firm Statista, took into consideration employee satisfaction, environmental, social, and corporate governance (or ESG and sustainability) data to deeply evaluate and rank the top 750 companies globally. According to the World’s Best Companies 2023, Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet (Google's parent company), and Meta Platforms are the top four out of the 750 best global companies.
As for Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson is the only company from the city to be featured on the list. It ranks 665th overall with a score of 77.46, its sustainability ranking is 705, and its employee satisfaction ranking is 384.
Leading the ranks, Microsoft reported an astonishing revenue of 72 billion USD in the recent financial year, which is a 63% increase compared to 2020. Moreover, they successfully reduced their carbon emissions by 0.5%. Notably, the average salaries of minority and female employees at Microsoft have surpassed their male counterparts. Furthermore, Dublin-based Accenture tops the list for ESG ranking. The company has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2025 and has significantly reduced its emissions since 2019.
