Time Management Techniques of Musk and Bezos
Everyone has only 24 hours a day, but it often feels like time is never enough. How to accomplish more within the limited time and make the most out of it is a question many ponder over. The success of successful individuals probably follows certain principles. Why not learn from the top two billionaires globally, Musk and Bezos, and understand their time management techniques to efficiently use our time?
- Musk
Being the CEO of Tesla, Musk believes that the most critical and important tasks should be scheduled in the morning, while other tasks should be tackled based on priority. He even structures his work schedule in five-minute increments.
Furthermore, this CEO isn't a fan of the "meeting culture". Musk has previously said in forums, "My advice is to spend less time on finances, less time in meeting rooms, less time on PowerPoint, and spend more time making the product as amazing as possible."
As such, he only arranges meetings for very urgent matters, "Don't waste time on things that won't make things better". He feels that unless the meeting can create immense value for the participants, big meetings should be avoided as much as possible. He even advises employees that if they are in a pointless meeting, they can immediately leave or hang up the call. - Bezos
On the other hand, Amazon's CEO Bezos believes that decisions must be of "high quality" and "fast". "Speed is vital for business." Bezos points out that most decisions should be made when 70% of the information is received. If you wait until 90% of the information is received, it's already too slow. Making decisions "quickly" is more important than making the "right" decisions. However, if a wrong decision is made, it should be corrected swiftly to minimize the repercussions.
Additionally, Bezos is very particular about his sleep. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Bezos said, "I must sleep a full 8 hours!" He believes that sleep is a way to decompress and relieve fatigue. Sometimes he even brings a sleeping bag to the office and doesn't use an alarm clock.
