新加坡國立大學商學院教授夏維吉尼亞（Virginia Cha）提出，當需要處理訊息、尋找機會、解決問題時，我們的大腦有三個相互關聯的齒輪，分別是「計算齒輪」、「知識齒輪」、及「連結齒輪」。每個人的大腦都有一個主導齒輪，了解其運作原理和如何讓它更有效能助你成為成功的企業家。
「計算齒輪」代表著我們的邏輯與推理能力，就如電腦的中央處理器，掌管解決問題的功能。然而，太依賴這項齒輪的人，往往較為欠缺人際互動或同理他人的能力。
「知識齒輪」則是我們的記憶和學習功能，負責整理、儲存我們的知識和理解。如果我們把大腦比喻成圖書館，知識齒輪就是圖書館管理員，負責將我們對事物的理解編入大腦中，以便在需要時能夠迅速獲取相關知識。擁有此項優勢的人常深入思考，但行動可能相對較慢。
「連結齒輪」如同行動應用程式，能從資料中找到客製化的解決方案。擁有連接齒輪的人通常具備創新精神和創造力，擅長在人與想法之間架起橋樑。他們能夠綜合自己所知所經，組合出全新的想法。
認識自身的優勢和局限，正是每位企業家成功的關鍵。若想強化自己較弱的齒輪，例如增強知識齒輪，可以透過大量閱讀和記憶練習；培養連結齒輪則隨著年齡和經驗的累積逐漸進步；而提升計算齒輪則比較困難，特別是對於不習慣以數字思考的人來說。
要強化較弱的齒輪，除了透過個人的努力訓練外，建立一個互補的團隊，也是一種有效的策略。如果你是連結齒輪型的人，但在計算和知識齒輪上較弱，你可以找到專業和解決問題能力強的夥伴來組成團隊。透過各成員的互補，以達致1+1+1大於 3 的效果，創造出更大的影響力。
Professor Virginia Cha from the National University of Singapore Business School suggests that when we face information processing, searching for opportunities, and problem-solving, our brains have three interconnected gears: the computing gear, the knowledge gear, and the connecting gear. Each person's brain has a dominant gear, and understanding how our brains work and how to make them more efficient is crucial for success as an entrepreneur.
The computing gear represents our logical and reasoning abilities, like the central processor of a computer, governing problem-solving. However, individuals who rely too heavily on this gear often lack interpersonal skills and empathy.
The knowledge gear is responsible for our memory and learning functions, organising and storing our knowledge and understanding. If we think of the brain as a library, the knowledge gear is like a librarian, ensuring that our understanding is incorporated into the brain for quick access to relevant knowledge. People with this gear tend to engage in deep thinking but may be slower to take action.
The connecting gear functions like a mobile app, able to extract customised solutions from existing data. Those with the connecting gear are often innovative and creative, skilled at bridging the gap between people and ideas. They can synthesise their knowledge and experiences to generate fresh ideas.
Understanding our strengths and limitations is key to entrepreneurial success. To strengthen weaker gears, such as enhancing the knowledge gear, one can engage in extensive reading and memory exercises. The development of the connecting gear often improves with age and experience. However, cultivating the computing gear is more challenging, particularly for those unaccustomed to thinking in numbers.
To enhance weaker gears, aside from personal efforts, building a complementary team is an effective strategy. If you excel in the connecting gear but have weaker computing and knowledge gears, you can form a team with partners who possess expertise and strong problem-solving abilities. Through the synergy of team members, 1+1+1 can become greater than 3, creating a larger impact.
