CEO的平均年齡日趨在下降,據Spencer Stuart調查顯示,新任命的行政總裁的年齡從2021年的56歲降至2022年的平均不到54歲。尤其在S&P 500中,有30%的企業執行長在2022年尚未滿50歲,對比2021年比例僅為12%。在這個科技和趨勢變化迅速的時代,過去的經驗對未來的戰略影響力正在下降,企業更需要一位能在不穩定、頻繁變動的市場中掌舵的領導者。

科技與趨勢發展迅速,過去20年的經驗對製訂未來20年的策略,可能已不再具有關鍵影響力。換言之,企業更需要的是能在不穩定且頻繁變動的市場中掌舵的領導者,他們要能夠帶領團隊合作,同時為組織帶來新視野和目標。

Z世代的興起,不但改變了外界對他們的印象,更讓我們看見他們對於成為企業領導者的企圖心。他們不想僅僅為了工作而工作,也不願意被傳統的職場時間和地點限制,他們有自己的抱負。

可是成為CEO並非代表你要變回年輕。面對越來越重的責任和越來越複雜的需求,一位優秀的CEO需要對社會議題有響應,並有足夠的勇氣去面對市場的變動。他們需要擁有真正的洞察力,知道哪些事情該做,哪些不該耗費精力。此外,他們還需要能夠向董事會和團隊清楚陳述自己的策略,並能說服他們接受這套策略。

年齡並非成為一名出色CEO的決定性因素。現代的CEO不僅需要具備敏銳的洞察力,還需要有一套有說服力的策略,並能在持續變動的市場環境中展現出決心和勇氣。隨著CEO的角色變得越來越公開,如何管理風險,並在企業、公眾和媒體之間建立良好的連接,也是一位優秀CEO所需具備的能力。

In recent years, the average age of CEOs has been declining. According to a survey by Spencer Stuart, the age of newly appointed CEOs has decreased from an average of 56 years old in 2021 to less than 54 years old in 2022. Particularly within the S&P 500, 30% of CEOs were under 50 years old in 2022, compared to only 12% in 2021. In this era of rapid technological and trend changes, the influence of past experience on future strategies is diminishing, and companies increasingly need a leader who can steer in an unstable and frequently changing market.

The rapid changes in technology and trends mean that the experience of the past 20 years may no longer have a crucial impact on the strategies for the next 20 years. In other words, what companies need more are leaders who can navigate in an unstable and constantly changing market, who can lead teams collaboratively, and bring new visions and goals to the organization.

The rise of Generation Z is not only changing perceptions about them, but also highlighting their ambitions to become corporate leaders. They don't want to just work for the sake of work, and they don't want to be restricted by traditional workplace times and locations; they have their own aspirations.

However, ascending to the position of CEO isn't simply a matter of being young. Faced with increasing responsibilities and increasingly complex demands, an excellent CEO needs to respond to social issues and have the courage to face market changes. They need to have true insights, knowing what needs to be done and what is not worth spending energy on. In addition, they need to be able to clearly articulate their strategies to the board and team, and persuade them to accept these strategies.

Age is not the decisive factor in becoming an outstanding CEO. Modern CEOs need not only sharp insights but also a persuasive strategy, and they need to demonstrate determination and courage in a constantly changing market environment. As the role of the CEO becomes more public, managing risk and establishing good connections between the company, the public, and the media are also abilities that an excellent CEO needs to possess.
